Peter Fowler

Radio NZ, VoxPop
Presenter, founder
Peter Fowler has a passion for public broadcasting and is a digital news pioneer.   His latest innovation “VoxPop” is a radio studio in your pocket. VoxPop allows anyone to record in near-studio quality on their smartphone which is also transcribed to text and uploaded to the radio station for broadcast/digital publication. VoxPop bridges the divide between the terrestrial side of radio and the digital side and helps them grow and interact with audience together. Peter currently works at RNZ as a presenter/journalist based in Hawke’s Bay. In 1996 he founded the Internet news service newsroom.co.nz, which utilised a subscription model and pioneered online and mobile phone news services.  He sold the business to stock exchange operator NZX in 2007. Peter has a keen interest in machine-learning newsrooms and automation of news. Twitter: @hapua
